Khaya Energy Pty Ltd (Khaya) was incorporated in December 2012 as a 100% African women owned entity. Khaya was formed with the intention to establish an independent South African company focused on business interests in the entire value chain of the mining industry and related commercial activities.
Khaya was created to develop profitable mining projects and form strategic partnerships in order to exploit the vast mineral resources in South Africa and ultimately the SADC (Southern African Development Community) region.
With that in mind, the founding members of Khaya employed various resources to ascertain the feasibility of such an aspiration by conducting a market and feasibility study. A strategy was subsequently formed on the basis of the outcome of the market and feasibility study.
Informed by the intricacies of the feasibility study the leadership of Khaya elected to narrow the focus of the short term business strategy to coal trading which is mostly the tertiary sector of the mining industry.
As part of its long term strategy, Khaya will then venture into the secondary and eventually the primary sector as per its growth plan.
KEY ROLE PLAYERS
With 20 years of working experience, both in the private and public sector, Nandipa has acquired a well – diversified knowledge and skills base.
Nandipa has developed her entrepreneurial skills through practicing intra corporate entrepreneurship through working in the private sector for companies like Batlagae Trust Fund; Anglo American Research Laboratories; Bhp Billiton; De Beers; Homeland Energy; Nimag (now Coal of Africa) and Sephaku Management.
She worked as a SMME developer in the Department of Minerals and Energy. She briefly held a similar position in the parastatal Mintek.
She holds an Honours degree in Geology and a certificate in the MComm bridging Course as well as several leadership courses and personal advancement training. She is currently pursuing her second post graduate degree with the University of Witwatersrand where she will soon be completing her MSc.
She is competent in the following areas of functionality: Regulation / Compliance; Policy formulation and review; Planning; Organising; Analysis; Enterprise development; Research and development; Leadership and control; and Processes / Project Management.
She is highly effective, has extensive hands-on knowledge of the minerals and energy industry and has an advanced operational skills and a sound leadership mind-set.
