GPL Multi-Party Women’s Caucus (MPWC)
The GPL-MPWC is a structure of the Gauteng Legislature, which consists of women parliamentarians from across party lines who; irrespective of gender, race, religion, culture, class or political affiliation, are united by a common vision, to liberate women in Gauteng. The interest of the MPWC is to advance women’s empowerment and gender equality, including promoting the socio-economic wellbeing of women in the province.
The MPWC is an influencing and advisory entity of the legislature and supports the institution to mainstream gender and human rights in the implementation of its constitutional mandates of oversight, law-making and public participation. The MPWC therefore advocates for the implementation of transformation programmes in the legislature and strengthening relations with strategic partners, for the advancement of the transformation agenda. The MPWC recognises that; when it comes to advancing the rights of women, it is essential to put political differences aside and unite for the common goal of a non-sexist and non-racist South Africa. The MPWC is led by an Executive Committee that consists of senior women legislators, representing all political parties in the legislature.
